Encore!

Eric LaFleur
is the son of  Dwight LaFleur, a lifelong resident of Ville Platte, a retired merchant and former Air Force fighter pilot.  His mother,
Flo Brown LaFleur, was raised on a rice farm in Chataignier, Louisiana, and worked as registered nurse.  Eric is the fourth of five children in the La Fleur family.

Eric LaFleur was born and raised in Ville Platte, Louisiana, where he currently lives with his wife, Julie Morein LaFleur.   Eric graduated from Louisiana State University (L.S.U.) and Tulane, earning a B.A. in French, Economics and History and a la
w degree from Tulane Law School.  Before entering private practice, La Fleur was a criminal prosecutor in one of the toughest cities in Louisiana, New Orleans.  His legal practice is focused primarily on transactional work: private, commercial and public finance.

He was elected to an open seat in the Louisiana House of Representatives in 1999 without opposition and reelected again in 2003 with 81% of the vote. In 2007, LaFleur won an inaugural seat in the Louisiana State Senate.  Today, he serves as Vice-Chairman of the Senate Committee on Education, and is a member of the following committees of the Senate: Finance, Budget, Insurance, and Judiciary B. He is also a board member of the Louisiana Citizens Insurance Company, and is chairman of the company’s litigation committee. In addition,  Senator LaFleur serves as president of the Louisiana section of French speaking legislators or Assemblée Parlementaire de la Francophonie, which is a worldwide organization of French speaking legislators and members of parliament from 77 countries.

Senator LaFleur’s wife, Julie Morein LaFleur, was born and raised just outside of Ville Platte, Louisiana.  Her father is a farmer and her mother a teacher.  She graduated from L.S.U. magna cum laude and earned her Master’s Degree from the University of South Alabama.  She is employed as a Physician’s Assistant for the Lafayette Heart Clinic.

Together, they have three children, Atticus Yves LaFleur, Amélie Estelle LaFleur and Alistair Wallace LaFleur.

LaFleur enjoys duck and dove hunting, cooking, and he is a student pilot and Macintosh computer enthusiast.
